Description: Prerequisite: CECS 302 and knowledge of C programming. The objectives of this course are to introduce the engineering design concepts and techniques of structuring data on mass storage devices and to provide experience in their use. Topics of study include sequential, indexed, and sequential and direct access files. Also included are topics on the organization using virtual storage, multiple key access, multilist, inverted list and cellular partitioned structures as well as hybrid file organization. Computer hardware and architecture are used for evaluating different techniques.
